CLASSICALLY, FAITHFULLY HOMESCHOOLING 4 BOYS

2015 – 2016 Homeschool Curriculum Choices

2015-2016 Homeschool Curriculum Choices

For the 2015 – 2016 homeschool year, I am making some major changes with our curriculum choices. We are returning to the classical method after using the Heart of Dakota curriculum for the past two years, which is based on the Charlotte Mason method.  We are joining our local Classical Conversations community where my high school aged son will attend the Challenge I class and the other 3 boys will join the Foundations classes.

I have also been reading my books on the classical method and learning about the schole method of “teaching from rest”. I want to incorporate this into our homeschool and simplify things. I want to enjoy our homeschool days and the time I have left with my older boys. After homeschooling for 9 years I can’t believe I will be graduating my 2nd child in just 3 short years!

So based on these decisions, here are 2015 – 2016 Homeschool Curriculum Choices.

Group Studies

Bible Study – Grapevine Bible Studies & The Picture Smart Bible and I incorporate these videos as well – What’s in the Bible with Buck Denver Series,  Friend’s and Hero’s, and I just signed up for the free trial of JellyTelly streaming TV created by the same people from What’s in the Bible and it has ALL of the What’s in the Bible episodes, as well as episodes from Friends and Hero’s, Theo, Veggie Tales, Sugar Creek Gang, songs from Seeds Family Worship, and a lot more! So far, my boys really like it.

Classical Conversations Memory Work Review – we will use games and flash cards for this and I have 80+ Links & Ideas for Practicing Memory Work that I can refer to as well.

REAL Science Odyssey Level 1Great Scientists and Famous Inventors, 101+ Creative Nature Walks.

Story of the World Volume 1 – we listen to the audio CD as it corresponds to our memory work and may do a few projects and coloring pages.

Various other read alouds that go along with our Classical Conversations memory work each week.

We also love doing Unit Studies by Amanda Bennett as a group.

And that sums up our 2015 – 2016 Homeschool Curriculum Choices! Whew! I am exhausted just writing it! Now to do lesson planning for all of this. Good thing I enjoy planning 🙂 Actually, I don’t have to plan for the Challenge class because he will have a lesson guide, we just have to get it all organized for him so he knows what to do each day.
