Map Printables Ancient Lands by Sprouting Tadpoles

I have created a set of maps for my boys to use this year in practicing memory work, labeling blank maps, playing games and for review. I pulled the information from various places so they can be used with any history or geography curriculum and any books you may be reading.  I started making these because I was having trouble wrapping my brain around the order of events, especially with the Canaanites, the Israelite’s, taking over the Promised Land, etc. There is so much to study when we get to this time period that I just kept getting confused and I thought making a visual representation of the events might help me “get it”. So I made maps of each point in the Israelite’s history, then I liked them so much that I went back and made maps of each civilization and important events as well.

And of course I am sharing with everyone and hope that they help others that may be confused like me:). If you’re not confused and totally “get it”, then congrats! I will admire you forever.

How we use the Ancient Lands Map Set

Each week I print out our blank maps and pick out the labeled map from my set, then the boys copy the info onto their blank maps and file it into their history notebooks.

We use these for practicing memory work as well. Some variations in the way we practice are:

I give them one of the lists and they locate and trace them on a blank map.

We do map drills with me calling out an area and they race to find & trace it.

We use them for locating and labeling the areas we are reading about. My upper grammar son is reading FaMulan right now and when he is finished, he will locate the area she lived in, the area she fought in, the rivers and mountains described in the book, etc. and color them in.

If you are covering Ancient History this year I have other great resources such as,  Ancient History Memory Work Cards, ABC’s of Ancient Egypt, Timeline Cards, and  Timeline Resources.

There are a lot of things you can do with these maps and if you come up with some new ways or some games, please share with us!!

Did you notice that when you click the link, it goes to another page and you have to click the link again to open it? I am trying to change that………..but for now you need to click it twice before the file opens 🙂 and if that doesn’t work for you, email me and I will send you the file directly 🙂 I hope it works out!
